Rays non-tender Hollins

The Rays haven’t offered outfielder Damon Hollins a new contract, allowing him to become a free agent.  Its a shame, because I like Damon a lot, and he’s done an excellent job for us over the last couple of years, but with Rocco, CC, Delmon Young and Jonny Gomes ahead of him, its not likely that he would have seen much playing time next year.  Hopefully he’ll find another team – because I know he can still do a good job.  His departure raises the likelihood of Elijah Dukes making the team out of spring training.  Which could be, well, interesting.  A top prospect?  Yes.  A bit of a temper?  Oh, boy yeah.

Other non-tendered players around the majors included Toby Hall (of odd-facial hair fame) and Victor Zambrano.  I wonder if the Rays management have taken notice of these two, particularly Zambrano.  A risk?  Of course.  But he’s got definite upside, and, coming off two seasons of injuries shouldn’t cost the world either.  A chance worth taking in my book.
